FOSFOQUIM was founded in 1986, with the construction of a Copper Phosphide production plant which increased its size with the years and which is supplying today not only the local but also the international market.
The production of Phosphorus Pentasulphide started in the year 1988 becoming the first and only chemical plant that produces this product in South America.
In 1990 due to the growth in production it was necessary to acquire an adequate lot of land to build the growing business. The construction was started of the new company facilities and the new Copper Phosphide production plant.
From the experience in the Phosphorus Chemistry, FOSFOQUIM S.A. started to develop new products and technologies for the production of these.
In 1999 two other plants were constructed, for the production of Phosphorus Pentoxide and for the production of Phosphorous Pentasulphide respectively.
A constant concern for research and the development of new technologies resulted in the development of the HORN DYLUPHOS SYSTEM® in 2001, a revolutionary pure Phosphine blending system with air without risk of ignition, for applications of Phosphine for fumigations. This technology is now commercialized in different countries of the world, being the only commercial technology available worldwide for the dilution of pure phosphine with air. Up to this time, four different models of this system have been developed, which are entirely constructed in our plant in Padre Hurtado, Chile.
In 2002 FOSFOQUIM started to offer fumigation services and phytosanitary treatment of stored products, area in which FOSFOQUIM has a number of patents and publications. In the year 2005 a new affiliate of FOSFOQUIM was created, FOSFOQUIM FUMIGACIONES S.A. which offers a complete phytosanitary treatment service for the Chilean fruit export industry.
In 2006 FOSFOQUIM an affiliate company, FOSFOQUIM ARGENTINA, for the marketing of its products and to introduce the Horn Diluphos System fumigation technology.
In 2005 FOSFOQUIM began to offer services to the mining industry, providing integral services for the handling of reagents for different mining plants.
In that same year FOSFOQUIM began to develop its own technology for the production of Sodium Hydrosulfide, which resulted in the construction of an industrial plant in the city of Talcahuano, Chile, with in initial production in 2007 that later expanded to full capacity during 2008.
Today FOSFOQUIM has offers different products which include Copper Collectors and Depressants for the mining industry, Copper Phosphide, Sodium Hydrosulfide, Phosphorus Trichloride, among others, and has become an important player in the supply of the chemical and mining industry.
The importance that FOSFOQUIM S.A. has given to the Health Safety and Environment during all these years, has been recognizes in several occasions by different organizations.
FOSFOQUIM began its activities manufacturing chemical products starting from Phosphorus. Today, the range of products has diversified, but the name and brand is still linked to the Phosphorus element whose shape of tetrahedron preserves a molecule of white Phosphorus as symbol of its beginning.
Our logo is a tetrahedron seen from above which vertices hold four spheres and represent the four atoms that form the molecule of yellow Phosphorus, represented with the chemical formula P4.
